The BASI Mat Program is designed for those who want to gain a thorough knowledge of Pilates Mat exercises and who want to become a highly qualified BASI Pilates Mat instructor. This program is a perfect introduction for students to instruct clients in group Pilates mat classes as well as those who work in locations without Pilates equipment. It is also a stepping stone to the BASI Foundation Apparatus Program and Comprehensive Apparatus Program.

The Mat Program structure is modular and includes 24 hours of lecture and practical work divided into six study modules. The Mat Program is generally held over a three-month period and requires approximately 100 hours of study, practice, observation and apprentice teaching.
The process of becoming a skilled teacher is highly individualized and BASI encourages each individual to work at his or her own pace. The goal is to develop excellence in each and every person, no matter how long it takes. Students are allowed to repeat any element of the examination process to achieve the required BASI Pilates standard. Additional fees may apply.
Those attending this program will receive a Mat Study Guide and a Mat Movement Analysis Workbook (MAWB).
Students may make up missed modules at any BASI Pilates Host location around the world. Returning students can also Audit any of the six modules to refresh the BASI repertoire and theory. Find the Mat Program closest to you.
Students who complete the Mat Program may test for a BASI Pilates Mat teaching credential which will qualify them as a teacher of BASI Pilates Mat. Please see teaching credential requirements below.

Pilates Mat work is a superb vehicle for learning the principles of the Pilates Method. It is also affordable, easy to integrate into many different settings, and a great way to introduce people to Pilates in general. Here, students have the opportunity to study and learn to teach a wide repertoire of Pilates Mat exercises and the integration of small apparatus into Pilates Mat exercise programs.
Program Fees include a Mat Study Guide, Mat Movement Analysis Workbook and Final Written Exam. E-books are available for purchase.
A $500 USD deposit is required, with the balance to be paid up to 10 business days prior to commencement of program.

If paying by bank transfer, all bank fees will be the sole responsibility of the enrolled student at time of payment.
All fee payments are receipted and are exclusive of sales tax. Please let the BASI Pilates office know in advance if a pro-forma invoice is required.
Teaching Credential Fees
For those seeking teaching credentials for the Mat Program, there is a $150 USD examination fee for the Practical Examination and Teaching Evaluation.

Students who complete and pass the requirements, set by BASI Pilates, will receive the appropriate internationally recognized and acclaimed Teaching Credential. The following are the Mat Program requirements that each student enrolled in the program must fulfill in order to become BASI qualified:
The hours required for this program should be completed during the program or up to one year following the completion of the final module. If the hours and the above requirements are not completed within three years, the student will need to repeat 50% of the modules prior to submitting hours and receiving a BASI Teaching Credential.
Hours must be logged online or on the BASI Pilates’ downloadable forms and submitted to BASI Pilates Academy.
All Teaching Evaluations and Practical Examinations for the Mat Program will be administered at the BASI Academy in Costa Mesa, CA and other selected testing locations throughout the US, several times a year. Please note that locations outside of the US may follow different testing protocols. Contact BASI Academy or a BASI Licensee (if your program is within a Licensee area), for details.
