Pilates Mat Teacher Training is the perfect vehicle for learning the principles of the Pilates Method. It is affordable, easy to integrate into different settings, and a great way to introduce people to Pilates. At BASI, we regard Pilates Mat Work as the "crown jewel" of Pilates.
BASI offers two Pilates Mat Teacher Training opportunites: Our Standard Pilates Mat Program and BASI Fit™ Mat.
The Standard Pilates Mat Teacher Training Program provides a thorough education in the Pilates Mat Work and its infinite applications. It is also the perfect springboard to the Standard U.S. or Global Apparatus Programs. The Mat Teacher Training Program is the same for U.S. and international Students.
Upon completion of the program, you will be qualified to:
BASI Fit™ is a training course for fitness professionals who want to add professional-level Pilates work to their fitness programs. It qualifies the fitness professional to instruct Group Mat in a health club environment.
BASI Pilates Mat Teacher Training Program includes 24 hours of lecture and practical work divided into six study modules. Training is generally held over a three-month period and requires approximately 100 hours of study, practice, observation and apprentice teaching.
Those attending this program will receive a Mat Study Guide and a Mat Movement Analysis Workbook (MAWB).
Students may make up missed modules at any BASI Pilates Host location around the world. Returning students can also Audit any of the six modules to refresh the BASI repertoire and theory. Find the Mat Program closest to you.
Students who complete the Pilates Mat Program may test for a BASI Pilates Mat teaching credential which will qualify them as a teacher of BASI Pilates Mat. Please see teaching credential requirements below.
Our goal is to develop excellence in every person. Students may repeat any element of the examination process to achieve the required BASI Pilates standard. Additional fees may apply.
The Standard Mat Program is taught by BASI Pilates faculty in Host studios around the world. Programs are ongoing in multiple locations throughout the year. All programs, no matter where they are held, are under the supervision of BASI Pilates and conform with BASI Pilates policies and procedures.

Pilates Mat work is a superb vehicle for learning the principles of the Pilates Method. It is also affordable, easy to integrate into many different settings, and a great way to introduce people to Pilates in general. Here, students have the opportunity to study and learn to teach a wide repertoire of Pilates Mat exercises and the integration of small apparatus into Pilates Mat exercise programs.
Mat Program Fees
Fees include a Mat Study Guide, Mat Movement Analysis Workbook and Final Written Exam. E-books are available for purchase.
A $500 USD deposit is required, with the balance to be paid up to 10 business days prior to commencement of program.
Tuition fees charged by international BASI licensees may differ from those specified here. For up-to-date international payment information please see the specific course.
If paying by bank transfer, all bank fees will be the sole responsibility of the enrolled student at time of payment.
All fee payments are receipted and are exclusive of sales tax. Please let the BASI Pilates office know in advance if a pro-forma invoice is required.
Teaching Credential Fees
For those seeking teaching credentials for the Mat Program, there is a $150 USD examination fee for the Practical Examination and Teaching Evaluation.
Additonal fees may apply to obtain Students Hours or any other educational resource to help with the study and practice of the BASI Method. For more information, please contact BASI Academy.
Students who pass all the requirements set by BASI Pilates will receive the appropriate internationally recognized and acclaimed Teaching Credential.
The Mat Program Requirements
The requirements this program can be completed up to one year following the completion of the final module. If not completed within three years, the student will need to Audit 50% of the modules prior to submitting hours and receiving a BASI Teaching Credential. Auditing fees apply.
Hours must be logged online or on the BASI Pilates’ downloadable forms and submitted to BASI Pilates Academy.
All Teaching Evaluations and Practical Examinations for the Mat Program will be administered at the BASI Academy in Costa Mesa, CA and other selected testing locations throughout the US, several times a year.
