The Pilates Method offers a unique and invaluable mode of training for men. Pilates is often thought not to be suited for men. The reasons for this are many and varied and include: Pilates being practiced predominantly by women, the way Pilates has been portrayed by the media, the fact that Pilates is very popular among dancers to the point that Pilates is often perceived as ONLY for dancers, and most Pilates teachers are female. Yet, there are few fitness regimens that are as well suited for men as Pilates.

This ONLINE, four-day certificate course presents a Physical Therapy approach to working with clients who have injuries, physical limitations, or movement dysfunctions. Focusing primarily on the cervical and lumbar spine, shoulder, hip, knee, ankle and foot, the course covers functional anatomy, biomechanics and a review of current literature. Specific injuries and pathologies, such as disc disease, post-surgical conditions, rotator cuff syndrome, tendinopathies and osteoarthritis, are examined. Students learn about precautions and/or contraindications for these conditions, as well as exercise options and modifications to the original BASI Pilates repertoire. Course participants learn safe ways to work with clients who suffer from some of the most commonly encountered pathologies and injuries, via lectures, discussions, demonstrations and practice.
Dec. 4-6, 2020 Fri-Sun
This ONLINE, 3-day workshop will provide everything a Pilates teacher should know about breast cancer and rehabilitation in a comprehensive Pilates context. Alexandra guides attendees in learning how to help women after mastectomy and during the journey of reconstruction. She will also give more information about various therapies, symptoms, lympedema, the psychological state of women going through the treatment and rehabilitation process, and methods of rehabilitation. Students will learn about different methods of reconstruction and how to choose appropriate exercises accordingly. If there is a volunteer woman with breast cancer, Alexandra will demonstrate ways to work with her as a client and provide opportunities for discussion. Students will also plan classes based on different case studies. Each day Alexandra will teach a Pilates class on the mat and demonstrate apparatus. This is an on program.
