The Power of Aging with Rael Icaowitz

May 14-15, 2021 Online

One of the greatest contributions of Pilates, as a discipline, will be for youth and the mature population. These are the two stages in life that I believe Pilates can be most impactful; setting the stage for a life of wellbeing and then maintaining that wellbeing as age begins to take its toll. Age cannot and should not be viewed only through the prism of years lived. There are many other factors that come into play. One of my favorite quotes of Joseph Pilates relates to the spine, the center column of the body: “If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30 you are old, if it is completely flexible at 60 you are young”. It may not be quite as simple as this; however, the message is clear. This same concept can be expanded to include balanced musculature, sufficient flexibility and mobility to perform life’s daily tasks, and possibly most importantly – mindset. To expand on the quote above: “If you have a youthful mindset at 80, you are young, if you have an old mindset at 40, you are old”. In this two-day workshop, we will explore all facets of well-being for the 65+ population
