Satoko was first introduced to Pilates in her late teenage years after a back injury. Having training experience of dance, gymnastics, and cheerleading, the dynamic yet graceful movement captured her heart in an instant. Cultivating awareness and balance of her own posture and movement not only helped her recover from pain, but also had a great influence in nurturing her inner self as a young adult. She has been on staff at BASI Japan since 2009, being one of the leading instructors of 25 BASI studios (as of June 2018) in the city of Tokyo. Being a native speaker of English and Japanese, Satoko has been privileged to work with and interpret for some of the greatest teachers from all over the world; Rael Isacowitz, Brent Anderson, Alan Herdman, Pat Guyton, Irene Dowd and many more. Through this never-ending journey of learning, meeting wonderful mentors and friends, her life was filled with light. Her passion is to share her love of movement, her knowledge and experience with others, and to keep learning in every opportunity possible. She continues to participate in courses and workshops to refine her teaching skills. Yoga and partner acrobatics (sometimes known as acroyoga) are a part of her practice as well; bringing her challenge in control and efficiency. She believes the practice of pilates allows her to be positive and safe in these more dynamic movements.
