BASI Pilates® Certificate Courses are designed specifically for experienced Pilates professionals. They require prior completion of the BASI Pilates Comprehensive Program or a similar program from a recognized teacher training organization.

The advanced courses offer a structured framework in which practicing experts from different disciplines work hand in hand with founder Rael Isacowitz and BASI faculty to cover a wide spectrum of disciplines. From Injuries & Pathologies to Innovations in Pilates, these certificate courses are intensive and fascinating ways for Pilates professionals to advance their understanding and careers.

Participants in any of the Advanced Education Courses are awarded a certificate from BASI Pilates and are well qualified to practice in their chosen area of specialization.

  • Pilates for Injuries & Pathologies

    Presenter: Samantha Wood, MPT, MBA, PMA-CPT, RYT

    This three-day, advanced education certificate course presents a Physical Therapy approach to working with clients who have injuries, physical limitations, or movement dysfunctions. Specific injuries and pathologies are examined and students learn about precautions and/or contraindications for these conditions, as well as exercise options and modifications to the original BASI Pilates repertoire.  Course participants learn safe ways to work with clients who suffer from some of the most commonly encountered pathologies and injuries. Course manual is included and participants receive a certificate of completion.
    This program is approved by the PMA for 18 CECs.

  • Pilates: Integration into Therapeutic Practice

    Presenter: Samantha Wood, MPT, MBA, PMA-CPT, RYT

    This introductory course is designed for Physical Therapists, Physical Therapy Assistants, Occupational Therapists, Certified Athletic Trainers and Chiropractors who have little or no experience with Pilates but have an interest in integrating this method into their orthopaedic rehabilitation practice. Participants will learn how to use Pilates as therapeutic exercise with specific patient populations.  Emphasis will be placed on core stabilization.  Safe use of the equipment and basic Pilates principles will be taught; in addition, specific exercises from the BASI Pilates repertoire will be demonstrated and practiced.  Indications and Contraindications for specific diagnoses and how these relate to the Pilates repertoire will be discussed.  Tips on starting and running a successful Pilates-based business will also be shared.  Upon completion of this course, participants will have the tools and skills to effectively integrate Pilates into any practice to meet therapeutic goals.

  • Innovations in Pilates Reformer

    Presenter: Anthony Lett

    Anthony Lett, author of the popular book “Innovations in Pilates” will teach and present on the major themes from his book. This 2 day course will cover important themes in the education and development of any serious Pilates teacher or advanced student.

    “Innovations in Pilates” details the integration of Therapeutic Muscle Stretching on the Pilates reformer. It has been described as the ‘missing element” in Pilates repertoire and teacher education. Anthony’s course will introduce you to the latest research in stretching biomechanics and neurophysiology in practical ways that will give you new insights into the Pilates system and dozens of new and effective ways of using your reformer. Whether you teach in a clinical or well-being based Pilates model, the work will enable you to increase the effectiveness of your programs and offer and new and exciting class formats. With the latest 3d analysis of movement, the course will also clarify and develop your anatomical knowledge in theoretical and experiential ways.

    It is going to be a weekend jam-packed with information designed to inform, improve and challenge the way that you think about and teach your Pilates work!

  • Pilates Through Pregnancy

    Presenter: Ashley Ritchie

    This 3 day Certificate Course will give you an in depth understanding of the process the mother-to-be is going through within and the physical changes without that pregnancy brings. Pilates Through Pregnancy and beyond course will take you through the 3 trimesters, the "Red Flag" conditions, exercise recommendations, modifications and assists. Hormonal affects from pregnancy, birthing and feeding the new born as well as Post pregnancy training protocols will be addressed. Diastasis Recti, what it is and how to treat it will be discussed in detail.

    This program is approved by the PMA for 19 CECs.

  • Pilates for Dancers (4 1/2 Day Workshop)

    The BASI Pilates Teacher Training Programs with Dance Specialization at CSULB will not be taught this summer. However, much of the dance content will be offered in the Pilates for Dancers course described below. Graduates from other BASI Teacher Training Programs can obtain a BASI Teaching Certificate with Dance Specialization upon completion of this course.

    Instructors from other programs are also welcome and will receive a Pilates for Dancers course certificate of completion and 24 NPCP CECs; previously called PMA CECs.

  • Pilates Kinesiology

    Presenter: Anthony Lett
