Foundation Program


The Foundation Program is the exciting beginning of the Comprehensive Teacher Training journey.

Upcoming Foundation US programs

The Foundation Program is the first half of the full Comprehensive Program and gives students a solid base for teaching Mat Pilates, as well as a thorough introduction to exercises on the Reformer, Ped-a-Pul, Cadillac, and Wunda Chair.

Upon completion of the Foundation Program, students will be qualified to:

  • Basic Principles
    Understand and apply the basic principles of Pilates in the teaching and demonstration of exercises.
  • Provide Cues
    Recognize common postural deviations and provide cues for improvement of the functional components of these conditions.
  • Key Principles
    Analyze and understand key Pilates exercises, based on anatomical and biomechanical principles.
  • Block System
    Utilize the BASI Block System to design and teach an individual or group exercise session.
  • Teach & Demonstrate
    Effectively teach and demonstrate a wide range of classical Pilates exercises and original BASI exercises on the Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Ladder Barrel, and Wunda Chair
  • Program structure

The Fundamentals

Primary concepts covered include the 10 movement principles of the Pilates method, an overview of the pelvic region, Pilates breathing, an historical overview of Pilates, the BASI approach, and the importance of safety when teaching Pilates. Repertoire includes fundamental Mat and Reformer exercises.

Includes a one-hour Mat class.
