Comprehensive Global - Africa

The Comprehensive Global Program includes the Mat Program as well as a thorough and complete education in Pilates covering the full range of Pilates equipment (Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, Ped-a-pul, Ladder Barrel, Step Barrel and various other Auxiliary apparatus). This program consists of 12 modules, which is comprised of 72 hours of lecture, discussion, and exercise analysis and practice. More than simply a program of study, the Comprehensive Global Program is an enduring foundation for a career in Pilates. This is a college-level teacher training program that give students knowledge of Pilates theory, exercises, and teaching skills on all Pilates equipment.

When you complete BASI’s Comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training, you will have graduated from the most rigorous, exciting, and positively life-changing Pilates teacher training in the business. You may test for a BASI Pilates Comprehensive teaching certification and you will qualify to take the National Pilates Certification Program exam.

To receive a BASI Comprehensive Certificate, students will have completed the Comprehensive Program along with 500 hours: self-practice (200 hours), observation (100 hours), practice teaching (200 hours), passed the mid-term and final written exams, and submitted a Student Paper. Additionally there is an in-person teaching assessment and practical examination.

Module 1 - The Fundamentals Feb 15, 2024 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Primary concepts covered include the 10 movement principles of the Pilates method, an overview of the pelvic region and Pilates breathing. A historical overview of Pilates is presented, plus the BASI® approach, and the importance of safety when teaching Pilates are discussed. Repertoire includes fundamental Mat and Reformer exercises. A one-hour mat class is taught.

Module 2 - Anatomy Overview Part 1 Feb 16, 2024 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Primary concepts covered include an anatomy and terminology overview: major bones, muscles, joints, bony landmarks and center of gravity. The importance and practice of cueing is discussed. Repertoire covers fundamental Reformer, intermediate Mat, Pole and Ped-a-pul. A one-hour mat class is taught.

Module 3 - Anatomy Overview Part 2 Feb 17, 2024 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM

Primary concepts covered include the BASI® system of movement analysis, exercise physiology, and aerobic/anaerobic exercise.  The BASI® format of teaching is discussed and the Block System®, created by Rael Isacowitz, is introduced. Repertoire taught is intermediate Mat and Reformer and Leg Weights. A one-hour mat class is taught.

Module 4 - Posture Assessment Feb 18, 2024 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM

Primary concepts covered are the principles of alignment and posture assessment. Discussion includes exercise as a tool for assessment. Repertoire taught includes intermediate through advanced Mat, intermediate Reformer, and fundamental Cadillac. A one-hour mat class is taught.

Module 5 - Core Strength: Back and Abdominals Mar 14, 2024 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Primary concepts covered are core strength and the relationship of the various muscle groups that make up the core with particular focus on the abdominals and the back extensors. Contraindications, effective exercises and the importance of understanding your clients needs and body type are discussed. Also addressed are the role of the teacher and the importance of flow in a session. Repertoire taught includes advanced Mat, intermediate Reformer, and Arm Chair. A one-hour mat class is taught.

Module 6 - Exercise Adaptation Mar 15, 2024 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Primary concepts include an in-depth look into exercise adaptation and the use of assists and modifications. Lecture focuses on how to construct a complete and comprehensive program. Repertoire taught is advanced Mat, intermediate Reformer, fundamental Wunda Chair and Magic Circle. A one-hour mat class is taught. The Midterm Written Examination is given.

Module 7 - Muscle Balance and Imbalance Mar 16, 2024 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM

Primary concepts covered are the meaning of balance, and the implications of imbalances in strength and flexibility. Lecture focuses on functional exercises, movement patterns, neuromuscular re-education and muscle testing. Repertoire taught includes intermediate and advanced Reformer, Wunda Chair, and Cadillac.

Module 8 - The Lower Limbs Mar 17, 2024 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM

Primary concepts covered include the hip joint, the knee joint and the ankle-foot complex. The gait cycle is discussed and analyzed. Repertoire taught is intermediate Reformer, Wunda Chair, and Cadillac.

Module 9 - The Shoulder Apr 18, 2024 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Primary concepts covered are the structure and function of the shoulder region. The shoulder joint, muscles of the shoulder, and the importance of correct shoulder mechanics are presented. Lecture includes how to work with clients with shoulder problems and recognizing scope of practice. Repertoire taught is intermediate Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, and introduction of the Ladder Barrel and Step Barrel.

Module 10 - Program Design Principles Apr 19, 2024 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Primary concepts covered are the principles of training, such as overload, specificity and reversibility. Components of physical fitness are addressed and analyzed. Lecture includes repertoire levels and how they relate to working with a broad range of clientele. Repertoire taught is advanced Reformer, Wunda Chair, and Cadillac.

Module 11 - Specific Populations Part 1 Apr 20, 2024 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM

Primary concepts covered are habitual movement patterns, cross training, imbalances and setting goals. The athletic population is looked at closely. Lecture focuses on teaching methodologies. Repertoire taught includes intermediate- and advanced-level work on both Ladder Barrel and Step Barrel.

Module 12 - Specific Populations Part 2* Apr 21, 2024 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM

Primary concepts covered are based on populations with restrictions and an in-depth look at pregnancy guidelines. Lecture includes teaching men and women, different body types as well as objectives and approaches. A general review of the repertoire is conducted. The Final Written Examination will be available online at the completion of the module.

Refunds

BASI offers limited refunds for students who cancel prior to or during the Program. A $500.00 sum payable upon submission of your Enrollment Application is comprised of a $100.00 fee for processing your application (“Administration Fee”) and a $400.00 deposit (the “Deposit”).

If BASI does not accept your Application or if you cancel thirty (30) or more days prior to the start of the first module, we shall, as soon as possible, refund all monies paid by you to us other than the Administration Fee.

Your enrollment into a program is a deciding factor as to whether the program would run as scheduled. Therefore if you cancel fewer than thirty (30) days prior to the start of the first module, then within thirty (30) days of receiving your cancellation request, we will refund all monies paid by you to us other than the Initial Deposit (including the Administration Fee).

We shall not be obligated to refund any monies if you cancel at any time following commencement of the first module of any program (whether or not you attend that or any other module).

We reserve the right to cancel any program. If a program is cancelled and a replacement is not offered, we will refund all monies paid by you to us.

Transfers

In the event of your cancellation as described above, BASI will allow you to transfer any monies paid by you for the cancelled program to any other BASI program for which you qualify, so long as such program is scheduled to commence within one (1) year of your Application to the cancelled program. In the event that you fail to transfer as stated, BASI shall have no obligation to refund any monies paid by you to us, regardless of when you cancelled or requested a transfer.

Please note: Our Refund Policy pertains to each Program for which you enroll and is stated in full in the Enrollment Agreement. In the event of any discrepancy between our website and the Enrollment Agreement, the Enrollment Agreement shall prevail.

Testing fees and Auditing fees are non refundable and non-transferable.

All fees and refunds are in U.S. dollars (USD).

Tuition: $2300

Full Payment Price: $2,300 USD (Tuition fees apply to South African residence only. Proof of residency will be requested prior to commencement of course.)

$500 USD Initial Deposit (includes the Non-Refundable $100 USD Processing Fee). The balance of $2,000 USD is to be paid up to 30 business days prior to commencement of the program.

Discounts:

• $500 ProBridge discount for Pilates Professionals with a Comprehensive Teacher Training certificate from another education program. Verification required.
• BASI Refresher Discount! Audit the entire course for $1,250. Prior completion of this program is required in order to audit.

To receive any applicable discount, please contact Student Affairs after enrolling in the program(s). A credit will be applied to your course tuition.

BASI Mat Graduates can apply 50% of the full amount of their Mat Program fee to the Comprehensive Program.

The Payment Plan option is only valid for teacher training programs conducted by BASI Pilates at its own or host facilities.

Tuition includes: registration, one (1) Study Guide Read Only PDF(E-BOOK), one (1) movement analysis workbook Read Only PDF(E-BOOK), and one (1) written examination. Additional Fees may include:

• Final Teaching/Practical Testing Fees: $100 USD (typically taken together)

• Obtain Observation, Self-Practice and Student Teaching Hours

• Subscription to Pilates Interactive, $10 USD/monthly

Method of payment is accepted by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, AmEx, Discover) or bank transfer. If paying by bank transfer, all bank fees will be the sole responsibility of the enrolled student at time of payment.
