A combined total of 30 yrs of Dance, Pilates and PT experience informs Teresa's integrated approach to help people find joy in movement and to age powerfully and gracefully. A native New Yorker, she toured worldwide for a decade as a soloist with the Martha Graham Dance Company of New York City. She has been a licensed physical therapist since 1996, earning a Master's Degree from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a graduate of Polestar and is a PMA® certified Pilates Teacher. In 2006, she sought to deepen her Pilates study graduating from the BASI comprehensive teacher training taught by Rael Isacowitz. She also had the honor of being in the first group to be trained to teach on the Avalon system by Rael.
In 1999, Teresa initiated the now flourishing Pilates program through the School of Medicine's Health Improvement Program at Stanford University where she continues to be a principal instructor and lecturer. Her courses include Healthy Bones: Movement Dos and Don'ts, OsteoPilates, Anatomy of Flexibility and Secrets to a Healthy Spine.
Teresa completed TheraPilates for Osteoporosis comprehensive training with Sherri Betz, PT, GCS and is is now a certified American Bone Health representative conducting workshops and lectures to increase community awareness of bone health.
Teresa will be presenting her workshop Pilates for the Mature Demographic at the upcoming PMA Annual Meeting in Las Vegas in November, 2012. She continues to teach privates and small groups at her Mountain View, CA studio Pilates with Teresa, combining best practices of PT and Pilates within the framework of the BASI Block System®.
