I wanted to share a story about how I found the powerful impact of the core principles of BASI Pilates, the use of the Block System and importance in consistency of “speaking the same language” as teachers, not only for ourselves but for our clients.
I teach a husband and wife at The Cypress Center in Los Angeles, a BASI Host studio run by faculty member Samantha Woods. I have been fortunate enough to also teach along side Rael at his home studio in OC. I know first hand from watching my mentor teach and other faculty the importance of a strong understanding of the method and the Block System.
Bob was new to movement and I am sure he wouldn’t mind me saying this, hewas not the most athletic or coordinated of clients, which is fine I enjoy a challenge. Betsy his wife was more experienced in Pilates. They quickly became very consistent clients, when in town the came religiously, twice sometimes three times a week and Bob is honestly my most improved client.
He comes in with a big smile and says “Sarah I stood up from the sofa today without using my hands” a few weeks later “Sarah I can put my own socks on!” He brings me such joy and try's so hard. His wife is a natural mover and has also improved her already lovely form.
They travel a lot and have an apartment in New York and go to London every year. They love their Pilates sessions so much I suggested that I put them in touch with a BASI studio in New York so they can keep the continuity of their progress.
They now have regular sessions when in New York at Physio Logic. When they couple travel to London every year so Sam Wood has provided them with UK and Ireland licensee Lisa Lamberti's e-mail, I sent my Block System notes over (we note every session at the studio as we are also a physical therapy studio also if we have subs everything is documented for a smooth transition for the client) to The Pilates Clinic in London and they have sessions at that studio when they are in town.
Bob and Betsy recently visited Dublin Ireland and they decided to take sessions there too (Live and Breathe Pilates)!! In two weeks they've taken BASI Pilates session in LA, New York, London and Dublin!!! I just LOVE this...We as teachers have been trained in such a strong method and training program that I can just send my clients to studios across the world and we speak the same language and know that they are in good hands.
This story highlights methodology, power and multi-nationality of BASI Pilates and what makes it so unique.
