The Kathy Grant Memorial Scholarship

Application Deadline: November 22, 2014

The Kathy Grant Memorial Scholarship program assists deserving students in achieving their educational and career goals in Pilates. It is open to any student who wishes to study the Pilates Method with BASI Pilates® and is able to demonstrate both financial need and deep commitment to the cause of Pilates education. The scholarships apply to the BASI Foundation and Comprehensive Programs held in any BASI-affiliated Host studio in the USA, and the advanced education Mentor Program taught by Rael Isacowitz.

In 2015, BASI will be awarding 2 partial scholarships for the Foundation Apparatus Program, 2 for the Comprehensive Apparatus Program and 2 for the Mentor Program. Each scholarship covers 50% of tuition fees.

The scholarships are awarded in memory of the late Kathy Grant, an original student of Joseph Pilates and one of the leading proponents of the Pilates Method until her death in 2010. Kathy Grant was a close friend and collaborator of BASI Pilates founder Rael Isacowitz and an honorary member of the BASI Pilates Faculty. ”Kathy was a true guide and mentor,” Rael says. ”She helped me establish BASI Pilates, today a leading Pilates education organization.”

Our objectives, in providing the scholarship, are to encourage dedicated and talented people to take up a career in Pilates and to spread the word that “physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness” (Joseph Pilates).

A  candidate for the Foundation and Comprehensive scholarship programs* must be a high school graduate or equivalent (G.E.D. Exam). College level studies in anatomy, physical education or associated fields are an advantage. Candidates must also be familiar with Pilates; a minimum of two years of Pilates practice is recommended.

For the Mentor Program, candidates must have completed a BASI or other recognized comprehensive teacher training program and have a minimum of three years experience teaching Pilates (two years for BASI-qualified teachers).

Financial need and an intention to pursue a career in Pilates are both requirements for the scholarship. Candidates must be able to satisfy the selection committee on both counts. In addition, recipients are required to meet all financial commitments 10 days prior to the start of the program. Mentor recipients are required to meet their financial commitments 30 days prior to the first day of the Mentor Program.

*Students attending the Foundation and Comprehensive Program with Dance Specialization are not eligible to apply for the Kathy Grant Memorial Scholarship.
