Shoulder Biomechanics and Pilates - The Basic Five (3 hours)

Presenter: Karen Clippinger

Various reserach studies recommend that five exercises be included in training programs to promote optimal movement of the shoulder complex and help avoid shoulder problems. This workshop will translate these recommendations into Pilates-based exercises with anatomically-based cues that can be readily added to arms series or mat classes with bands. (This course is approved by the PMA for 3 CECs)

Low Back Pain & Pilates: Extension-Based Programs (3 hours)

Presenter: Karen Clippinger

Low back pain is prevalent and the same Pilates exercise can aid or aggravate different clients. This workshop will focus on understanding the common low back conditions of disc injury, flat back posture, and osteoporosis, as well as why spinal extension can aid and spinal flexion can aggravate them. Participants will learn novel Pilates-based exercises and modifications for classical Pilates exercises designed to build necessary three-dimensional core strength that emphasize tolerated positions while avoiding positions that tend to aggravate these conditions. (This course is approved by the PMA for 3 CECs)

Please note: Both topics are offered on the same day and registration is for attendance of both workshops. Registration for half the day (one topic) is not available.
