Foundation (US)
Standard- Foundation Apparatus Program

The Foundation Program is the exciting beginning of the Comprehensive Teacher Training Journey.

The Foundation Program gives students a solid base for teaching Mat Pilates and a thorough introduction to exercises on the Reformer, Ped-a-pul, Cadillac, and Wunda Chair.

There is no certificate for the Foundation Program. However, completion of this program allows students to pursue a Mat Pilates teaching certificate (see requirements in Mat Certificate tab) or continue on to the Graduate Program.

BASI's Foundation Program prepares students for the Graduate Program as it is a prerequisite. The Foundation Program consists of six modules (see Program Structure tab below), which includes lectures, discussion, exercise analysis and exerice practice.

Students are encouraged to begin their hours during the Foundation Program.

For Mat Centralized Testing information, go to Examination Process.

Please review our Refund Policy before registering for a program (may not apply to Licensee territories).

Program schedule is subject to postponement or cancellation, based on student enrollment.

*All fees are in U.S. Dollars.

I think it was presented in an organized and useful manner for me.

I was certified in at 4 years ago and knew much of the material; however there have been changes since then as well as a change in the content of the course. I think it was presented in an organized and useful manner for me.

I can not tell you how honored and excited I am to be a part of the BASI Alumni.

I can not tell you how honored and excited I am to be apart of the Basi Alumni. With my career change in ecstatic to be doing something bigger then myself and potentially changing people's lives! Not to mention I am able to travel the world and still be under BASI family code. It's refreshing to be with such a beautifully structured company. I';m proud to be one of many who have made the decision to get up and do something not only with their body but with their mind, heart and soul. I promise to give everything I have to hold Basi at the highest standard when it come to being an instructor, to be all I can be!

I loved every minute of the course, and look forward to completing the Comprehensive course in the future.

I loved every minute of the course, and look forward to completing the Comprehensive course in the future. My only complaint is the price for both programs together. Well worth it, but a lot to pay at once...therefore I will wait until next spring for CAP. Also, i was looking forward to spending time at headquarters, but I learned we are charged each time for observing. I am fine paying for privates, but considering the full program price, I feel paying for observations only isn't appropriate.

Overall, I loved the FAP and look forward to the CAP. I love the attention to detail and that we are required to have a deep understanding of human anatomy. I think BASI is a leader in the industry and will be proud when I complete my program to be part of it!

The Foundation Apparatus Program was wonderful!

The FAP was wonderful. I learned more than I expected to learn and in such a short period of time. Ofie and Sheri were wonderful teachers, and they instilled "practice, practice, practice."

The materials provided a wealth of information. The study guide and apparatus manuals are wonder. A few changes are upcoming, I understand. One suggestion is that it would be very helpful to include the entire proper setup for each movement/exercise, and ensure position of the feet and hands is included if it cannot be seen from the photo.

Thank you for a wonderful experience!

The information and exercises are beautifully and logically presented.

The information and exercises are beautifully and logically presented, and with pictures (my stick figure artistry gets a little fuzzy). The handouts/binders are truly a gift- thank you! Of course I wish the course was twice as long- but really it's just right- a lot of the work simply needs to be worked through and experienced on our own.

I learned so much in the course - I came out a different person. I wish we'd had more time to practice with feedback from the instructors and would recommend adding a day to the course.

both Jenn and Amy were fantastic in describing different aspects and areas of the body!!!

I would of loved to have a skeletal structure during our discussions. I am a huge visual and tactile learner. With that being said, both Jenn and Amy were fantastic in describing different aspects and areas of the body!!!! (So maybe having the skeletal structure is more just for me ;))

    Lots of information

There is alot of material covered during each three day weekend, which can be a bit overwhelming. However, this might be the best way to present the material, since some have to travel fairly far distances.

    Lots of information

Course handouts- Some visuals in the handbooks are a little difficult to distinguish (exercise demos). Length of course-There is a lot of information being presented during the scheduled class hours. 6+ hours of info on back to back days can be a little overwhelming. I personally like faster paced work, but I know other students felted an overload of material at once.

I am proud to be a part of BASI

I wish there was more time to spend bringing the pages to life. We are at a disadvantage here in Austin because we don';t have the support with the observation except for the wonderful videos online. Kelly is exceptional at teaching, I will definitely visit her studio to learn more from her. BASI has made me want to be a better exercise scientist and fitness trainer in all ways, not just in Pilates. But, it also makes me realize that Pilates can be in everything, in all of my training sessions, in all of my different types of classes. For just that, I am grateful. I am refreshed and renewed. I know that I have so much to learn and sort out! I appreciate this ever changing field and am proud to be a part of BASI knowing that it understands that exercise evolves as does the body.

    Foundation Apparatus Program- Standard

I am amazed at how much I've learned in just 6 modules! I am very impressed with BASI, in particular the quality of the faculty (Myriam and Katie are phenomenal), course material, and overall high standard to which the program holds itself. The enthusiasm for BASI that I have experienced through interactions with faculty and certified instructors is quite a testament to the program. I'm very excited to join the BASI family!

    Foundation Apparatus Program- Standard

It would be easier to maybe make the course three Saturday-Sundays instead of two Friday-Saturday-Sunday sessions. The material is incredibly dense and by the last day, most of the class was feeling quite overwhelmed.

    Foundation Apparatus Program- Standard

This course has been wonderful. Tons of information is thrown at you in such a short time but I haven't felt overwhelmed once. The BASI faculty and staff have created a very supportive atmosphere that makes learning the program easier and fun.

    Foundation Apparatus Program- Standard

The instructors were each extremely amazing. I would have liked module 6 extended into a 2-day course. The last module FAP was super intense. Overall the quality of the instructors and materials were absolutely amazing giving BASI a cut above the rest of other the pilates certifications. Thank you BASI.

    Well Organized

The course is organized. The time in between the next class is properly spaced. Allowing ample time to absorb and practice before the next module. The study and review guide are great tools to help organize and prepare for the class as well as feedback for myself to see what I needed to work on.
