Who is your teacher?
Melanie graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), School of Health Sciences with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology (the study of movement of the human body) in 2002.
She graduated from the Community College of Southern NV (CSN) physical therapist assistant program and obtained her NV state license as a physical therapist assistant in 2000.
Melanie is certified with the highly respected Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) as a Group Exercise Instructor, Senior Fitness, water fitness instructor and personal trainer; BASI certified Pilates instructor; IWA; and the Arthritis Foundation.
She has completed the Arthritis Foundation PACE (land) and AFYAP (water) instructor courses and is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Physical Therapy Association.
She is an experienced teacher having taught classical ballet, modern dance, tap, jazz, aerobic/fitness classes, strength-training, yoga, Pilates, water fitness and senior fitness.
During these past 18 years living in Las Vegas, she has taught regularly for 24 Hour Fitness, Golds Gym, Siena Fitness Center, Red Rock Country Club, L.V. and Clark County Senior Centers, Lady of America Fitness Clubs, Sun City Body Works Club, Nevada Ballet Theater, Las Ventanas at Summerlin, American Parkinsons Disease Association, Sun City, Heritage Springs, Acacia Springs, Desert Springs and Chancellor Gardens.
For 10 years, before moving to Las Vegas, she taught classical ballet, modern dance, jazz dance and tap in Caracas, Venezuela - so she speaks Spanish. She was the resident teacher for Venezuelas federally funded modern dance company, La Compania National de La Danza Moderna.
In Hollywood, CA, she taught Movement for Actors for the Film Industry Workshops at CBS Columbia Studios; classical ballet at Eugene Lorings American School of Dance. Among some of her students were Jane Fonda, Richard Chamberlin, Mary Tyler Moore, George Chakaris and Juliet Prowse.
She performed and taught as a member of the Los Angeles based Bella Lewitsky Modern Dance Company in universities and theaters throughout the United States.
Her first career was as a professional dancer and actress in television and motion pictures in Hollywood, CA. You may have seen her on the Red Skelton, Carol Burnett, Dean Martin and Andy Williams television shows. She also danced in the Perry Como, Dick Van Dyke, Bill Cosby, Ann Margaret, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Ed Sullivan, Danny Thomas, Osmond Brother Specials, as well as several Academy Award and Grammy Award shows, the movie, Hello, Dolly! with Barbara Streisand, with Richard Chamberlin in Dr.Kildare and Robert Vaughn and David McCullum in Man from Uncle, and, and... She is proud to share the honor, along with Roy Fitzell, of being the very first dancers to perform on the Dorothy Pavilion Theater stage at its inauguration in Los Angeles with choreographer, Eugene Loring (Billy the Kid for the American Ballet Theater).
Melanie began working as a Physical Therapist Assistant with Aegis Therapies in the skilled nursing rehab facility in Las Ventanas in January 2011.
