(Register
on-line)This course is designed to meet the growing demand for
teachers pursuing this aspect of the work only. Mat Work is the
basis of the Pilates method and is offered in a unique and exciting
way. Taught to make it applicable for many different settings and
environments, in addition to the full compliment of Mat Work exercises,
the students study how to integrate small apparatus into the Mat
program. We encourage students who master this program to use it
as a springboard to the Comprehensive Teacher Training Program.
The Mat Work Teacher Training Program is offered in two different formats to allow students the greatest flexibility in selecting a program to fit their schedule:
Independent
Presented as a separate teacher training course consisting of 6 days, 6 hours per day
Integrated
Students attend the first 6 modules of the Comprehensive Teacher Training Program where the focus of the work is exclusively on Mat Work.
In either case, the course for all Mat Work students includes:
Formal Study
Observation
Student Teaching
Assignment
All lectures are conducted at the Host location. It is recommended that Observation and Student Teaching hours be completed at the Host Location or one of our Affiliate Studios. However, these can be done at any studio and are logged by the student. We trust that the student recognizes that this is a valuable part of the educational process and will take responsibility to fulfill this requirement in the best way possible.
Prerequisites:
Familiarity with the teachings of Joseph Pilates
It is highly recommended to have familiarity and experience in Pilates Mat Work before embarking on this course of study
Study in basic anatomy and physiology
Although it is recommended that this be a college level course, it is also acceptable if it is part of another area of study such as a massage therapy, physical therapy or some other similar program
Experience in a related form of physical activity
Over the years it has become apparent that experience in other physical activities is extremely beneficial. This allows the student to relate and compare the work to past movement experience
Teaching experience is recommended
Teaching is a learned skill, an art and a natural talent. Any past teaching experience, even in an unrelated area will contribute to the process of becoming a teacher of the Pilates method
