| BASI™ Comprehensive Teacher Training Course with Dance Specialization
An exciting addition to the BASI educational curriculum, this intensive program is a collaboration between Rael Isacowitz, a former dancer and choreographer who holds a Master of Arts in Dance from the University of Surrey, England and Karen Clippinger, a former dancer who holds a Master of Science in exercise science and is currently an associate professor in the Department of Dance at California State University at Long Beach. Karen’s focus on kinesiological principles to enhance technique and reduce injury risk and Rael’s commitment to the art of human movement led them to develop this unique program and specialization that caters to dancers and dance students.
Both Rael and Karen have worked with an impressive list of performers from Cirque du Soleil, Pacific Northwest Ballet, London Contemporary Dance Theatre, Royal Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Alwin Nikolais, Joffrey, Bill Evans and Mark Morris Dance companies, Australian Ballet, Sydney Dance Company, Bat Dor Dance Company and others. Since Karen began incorporating Pilates into several of her classes at CSULB, her work with Rael to develop this new BASI specialization building on a dancer’s high level of physical proficiency, keen attention to alignment and focus on technique seemed a natural.
Structured as a concentrated two week experience, the format allows students, teachers and participants from other states and countries to more readily attend the program. This course of 18 modules includes the entire 12 module curriculum of the BASI Comprehensive Teacher Training Course plus 6 additional modules of academic and practical education with a dance focus.
Prerequisites:

- Experience in a related form of physical activity
Over the years it has become apparent that experience in other physical activities is extremely beneficial. This allows the student to relate and compare the work to past movement experience
