The Kathy Grant Memorial Scholarship

BASI Pilates® provides scholarships to deserving students who intend making Pilates their career. The scholarships cover all tuition fees for the BASI Comprehensive Teacher Training Course (CTTC,) held in any BASI-affiliated host studio in the USA. (Scholarships in the rest of the world will be awarded from 2013.)

The scholarship is awarded in memory of the late Kathy Grant, an original student of Joseph Pilates and one of the leading proponents of the method until her death in 2010. Kathy Grant was a close friend and collaborator of BASI Pilates founder Rael Isacowitz and an honorary member of the BASI Pilates Faculty. "Kathy was a true guide and mentor,"Rael said. "She helped me establish BASI Pilates, today a leading Pilates education organization."

The Kathy Grant Memorial Scholarship assists deserving students in achieving their educational and career goals. It is open to any student who wishes to study the Pilates method with BASI and is able to demonstrate both financial need and deep commitment to the cause of Pilates education.

The objectives of BASI Pilates in providing the scholarship are to encourage dedicated and talented people to take up a career in Pilates and to spread the word that “physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness,” (Joseph Pilates.) 

Eligibility

A candidate must be a high-school graduate or equivalent (G.E.D. Exam.) College-level studies in anatomy, physical education or associated fields will be an advantage. Candidates must also be familiar with Pilates; a minimum of two years Pilates practice is recommended.

Financial need and an intention to pursue a career in Pilates are both requirements for the scholarship and candidates must be able to satisfy the selection committee on both counts.

Submission Requirements

Please provide the following with your application:

• This application form printed and filled in.
• An essay of up to 800 words describing your career aspirations, explaining why you are deserving of a scholarship and addressing the statement “Creativity is when the teacher and the pupil are the same person,” (Arthur Koestler.)
• Three letters of recommendation.

The essay and letters can be either attached to the application form of mailed to:
