I have been attending the PMA (Pilates Method Alliance) meetings since the first one in Miami, which was what seems like a lifetime ago. Now in its 16th year the PMA is stronger than ever. I was a Founding Board Member of the PMA and sat on the Certification Commission for a short time. Seeing the growth of the PMA and witnessing the profoundly positive influence it is having on the industry is extremely gratifying.
I would start with thanking individually all the many people who make the PMA so special. However that would make this short letter extremely long. They all know who they are and how much I admire and respect them. I will however thank the BASI Pilates and BASI Systems team; Stella, Cengiz Han, Ceylan, Mehmet and Seknar for their tireless work and extraordinary support.
I gave two presentations, one of 4 hours and the other 2 hours. The 4-hour pre-conference workshop was relatively small and intimate. Everyone had the opportunity of spending time on the equipment and experiencing the exercises I introduced. Around 140 people attended the two-hour presentation; the energy was high and the enthusiasm contagious. Sheri Long, BASI Senior Faculty, taught a mat class that I heard was fantastic and Teresa Marchock, BASI Associate Faculty, taught a workshop, which of course was very well attended and extremely well received.
There were the requisite parties, celebrations and festivities. However for me, the highlight was without a doubt seeing BASI Pilates and BASI Systems sharing a booth and representing the BASI brand with grace, professionalism, enthusiasm and joy. People flocked to the booth and received information and watched demonstrations. I put two delightful young ladies through a workout magnifying the value of the F2 Chair.
Another PMA conference comes and goes. It was a lot of fun bumping into good friends and colleagues I so seldom see. Our community remains strong, Pilates continues to grow, the BASI Family is ever expanding and BASI Systems is on the map! I could not be happier or prouder.
