When I signed up to be a part of the ‘BASI’ family years ago, I had no idea that I would gain an entire family world wide. I always wanted a big family, but this family is like no other. This past year has been the biggest struggle of my life. Being diagnosed with Stage III Ovarian Cancer has not only turned my world upside down, it has left me in financial stress. I thought since I had already had cancer once before as a child that there was no way I could get cancer again. I was so wrong and this is where I made a mistake. I never purchased disability insurance as an independent Pilates teacher. After I was told the news that I had cancer and that I wouldn’t be able to work after the many surgeries I would have to endure, I panicked. I didn’t know how I would financially survive this past year.
The minute I was diagnosed with cancer, Jeanne King and Rael contacted me. They wanted to know how they could help. They set up the BASI Foundation in honor of my name asking me to be the first recipient. I can’t express my gratitude. The Basi Foundation has been so generous to pay my studio rent for two months and provide me with financial help. Thank you BASI Pilates and thank you to all of my BASI family members who have contributed from across the globe. The compassion from all of you sends chills through my body and tears of happiness down my cheek.I am happy to say that after a year of grueling surgeries and chemotherapy, I am cancer free. Having your support knowing that I could take a leave from my job to recover and focus on myself has been the best gift of all.
