BASI Foundation: Pilates Gives Back Follow-up

by Jeanne King

On Saturday, September 19th the Pilates community celebrated Pilates Gives Back Day. The one-day event invites our community to unify and devote our talents and efforts to fundraising and giving back to those less fortunate. This year, Pilates studios across the globe focused their fundraising efforts on supporting the BASI Foundation.

The BASI Foundation mission is to support and financially assist professionals in the Pilates industry when they find themselves in compromised situations due to illness or injury. The first recipient of the support from BASI Foundation is Emilee Garfield, a Pilates instructor recovering from surgery and chemotherapy.

We are very excited to report that BASI Foundation collected over $4,000 for its’ first fundraising efforts. We would like to thank our colleagues, friends and family for their very generous support! 50 individuals and Pilates studios offered sessions and group classes in order to assistance to our cause.  Many clients gave very generous donations as well.

Here is a comment from one of our BASI Hosts:

“Love the fact that BASI Foundation is addressing a real fear that small business owners in Pilates industry face every day. Business can be booming, but what happens when you can no longer service the clientele you worked so hard to generate. I have seen two great ladies pass away from ovarian and pancreatic cancer and both had successful studios before their devastating diagnosis. We would love to donate to the BASI Foundation, we are happy to help you reach your goal!”        – Kelly Sassman, Purely Pilates, Sacramento

After reading some of the many emails, Rael replied “Wow, I am blown away and humbled. This is so unbelievable. Our BASI family is truly amazing!”

I could not agree more with Rael. With continued support, this foundation will be able to do great things for Pilates instructors in need.

We will be offering another opportunity for everyone to participate on Saturday, December 12. We hope to encourage year-end giving and help us reach our goals!

Truthfully, we could not do this without you. We, and those we serve, deeply appreciate your generosity of both time and money.
