Rael Isacowitz is a world-renowned Pilates practitioner, teacher, author and innovator and founder of BASI Pilates teaching academy. Rael’s early Pilates teachers included Alan Herdman and several of the first-generation Pilates exponents, among them Kathy Grant, Ron Fletcher, Romana Kryzanowska, Eve Gentry and Lolita San Miguel. Rael is the author of two definitive books on Pilates and several workbooks. He is also the designer of the Avalon System range of equipment, the guiding spirit behind Pilates Interactive, the web-based videopedia, and a highly sought-after global presenter.
New York-born Lolita San Miguel has been practicing Pilates for 54 years. She is one of only two known practitioners to have been formally certified by Joseph and Clara Pilates and has degrees in Pilates education from the State University of New York. She is one of the four “Distinguished Elders” recognized by the Pilates Method Alliance. Lolita lives in Puerto Rico, where she teaches her highly successful Pilates Master Mentor Program (PMMP). She has published eight DVDs and is in great demand throughout world as a teacher and lecturer.
Alan Herdman learned the Pilates method in New York in the late 1960s, when he studied with Carola Trier and Bob Fitzgerald, two instructors who had been trained by Pilates himself. He took the method back to his native London in 1970 to set up Britain's first Pilates studio. Alan lectures on Pilates around the world and has written several successful books. He runs a training course for Pilates instructors in London and teaches in dance schools and Pilates studios internationally.
Karen Clippinger is a professor of anatomy, dance and movement at California State University at Long Beach and a member of the BASI Pilates teaching faculty. Before joining academia, she worked as a clinical kinesiologist for 22 years at Loma Linda University Medical Center and several sports medicine clinics in Seattle. She has worked with hundreds of professional dancers and athletes from all disciplines. Karen is the author of the textbook Dance Anatomy and Kinesiology and is a renowned presenter in Pilates, dance, anatomy, and biomechanics.
Brett Howard is the Director of Education at the United States Pilates Association™ and a Senior Teacher of Teachers in the New York Pilates Studio® Teacher Certification Program. He was certified by the New York Pilates Studio® under the tutelage of Romana Kryzanowska and has trained with Mary Bowen, Jay Grimes Lolita San Miguel and others. Brett runs The Pilates Haus Studio in Jersey City, New Jersey and is a regular workshop teacher in the US and internationally.
